Certificate of Vietnam visa exemption in Canada

All travellers to Vietnam for tourism, business, study, visiting relatives, volunteering or for any reason... need to obtain a valid visa issued by the Embassy of Vietnam in Canada before their travel to Vietnam

Certificate of Vietnam visa exemption in Canada

1. General instructions

  • The certificate of visa exemption is eligible for Vietnamese people residing abroad and holders of foreign passport who are spouses or children of a Vietnamese citizen or Vietnamese residing abroad
  • The visa exemption certificate is valid for up to five years and must expire six months before the expiry date of the passport attached
  • Maximum duration of each stay in Vietnam is 90 days
  • The visa exemption certificate can be applied for mail or in person at the Vietnam Embassy/ Consulate located in their countries of residence
  • Processing time: 5 to 7 working days since the receipt of complete required documents
  • Visa exemption application fee is $20/ person (excluding legalization and certification fee) must be paid in cash, credit card (visa or master), money order or bankdraft payable t Embassy of Vietnam.

2. Required documents to apply for visa exemption certificate

 For Vietnamese people residing abroad

  • 01 application form for visa exemption certificate
  • 02 recent 4x6 cm photos with white background, straight face, bare head, no coloured glasses
  • Foreign passports or equivalent documents with validity of more than 6 months upto date of entry or a copy of valid passport (picture page) notarised and authenticated by Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs.
  • 01 copy of residential document certificated by notary public and authenticated by Foreign Affairs Department of Canada
  • One of the following documents (original for verification and a certified true copy for file)

          - Certificate of Vietnamese citizenship; 

          - A copy or excerpt of the Decision for Recovery of Vietnamese citizenship;

          - A copy or excerpt of the Decision for Renunciation of Vietnamese citizenship;

          - Certificate of Loss of Vietnamese citizenship;

          - A Vietnamese passport (valid or expired);

          - A copy of Vietnamese Identity Card (valid or expired);

          - A Vietnamese Birth Certificate; - The latest voter’s card;

          - A Family Register Book;

          - A travel document issued before 1975;

          - An Identity Card issued before 1975;

          - An Excerpt from Birth Register issued before 1975;

         - Documents issued by competent foreign authorities proving that the person in question has original Vietnamese citizenship or of Vietnamese origin.

  • A prepaid self-addressed return envelope/waybill for those who apply by mail. Canada Post Priority or Xpress post or Fedex are highly recommended. Please keep note your return waybill tracking number and your passport number for necessary tracking. For applicant passport and/or visa safety, regular mail is NOT ACCEPTED

For holders of foreign passport: who are spouses or children of a Vietnamese citizen or Vietnamese residing aboard

  • 01 application form for a visa exemption certificate
  • 02 recent 4x6cm photos with white background, straight face, bare head, without colored glasses
  • A foreign passport with validity of more than 6 months upto date of entry ( a certified copy attached for competent authority to file)
  •  One of documents proving relationship between wives/husbands/children and the Vietnamese residing abroad (Original for verification and one certified true copy to file. In case this document is issued by foreign country, it must be authenticated by DFAIDT)

         - Certificate of Marriage 

         - Certificate of Birth 

         - A Certificate of relationship with father, mother, children;

         - Decision of Adoption;

  • A prepaid self-addressed return envelope/waybill for those who apply by mail. Canada Post Priority or Xpress post or Fedex are highly recommended. Please keep note your return waybill tracking number and your passport number for necessary tracking. For applicant passport and/or visa safety, regular mail is NOT ACCEPTED
