Hai Van Pass is the natural border between Hue and Da Nang. Standing on Hai Van Quan which is 500m in height from the sea level, tourists can see the whole Da Nang city, Cu Lao Cham, Tien Sa harbor…

Hai Van Quan is to the North of Da Nang city, following highway 1 about 25km. This road is very dangerous, since Hai Van tunnel was in use, this road has been deserted.

Stop at the highway, take more than 30 stairs, tourists will see the gate with “Hai Van Quan” on it. The ancient citadel is still valuable although it was ruined by bombs, time and humans.

From the top, Da Nang city is so small surrounded by immensed sea. If you depart from Hue to Hai Van Quan, you have to cross 3 passes: Phuoc Tuong, Phu Gia, Hai Van. Every early morning and afternoon, the whole area is embraced by flying floating clouds.

When the sun comes down, the temperature on the top of Hai Van Pass goes down to 15 celsius. This is the perfect time for tourists to enjoy the flying clouds around the mountain.

At night, from Hai Van, you can contemplate the whole scene of Lang Co Bay or Da Nang city.

There is no electricity on Hai Van Pass so at night, it is immersed in the dark. The windind road from Da Nang to Hue is getting deserted.

On the top of the pass, the pass gates and citadel still remains. The gate towards Thua Thien palace has 3 words “Hai Van Quan”. The gate towards Quang Nam said “Thien ha de nhat hung quan (the best hero of all)” (Rumors has it that King Le Thanh Ton wrote it when stopping here to contemplate the scene here).

Through many years of ups and downs of history, the walls of the citadel are surrounded by green moss layers.
