Blessed by nature and predominantly rural, Vietnam is a beautiful country in the south east of Asia. Vietnam is officially called the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and is one of the most densely populated nations in the south East Asia. Main mode of transportation at Vietnam is buses, Rickshaw, bicycles etc. And when travelling in Vietnam, you can choose means of transportation for conveniently going and understanding Vietnam’s culture

Cyclo

What is the best means of transportation in Vietnam for a foreigner?

The cyclo is a bicycle rickshaw. This cheap, environmentally friendly mode of transport is steadily dying out, but is still found in Vietnam’s main cities

Cyclo drivers always hang out near major hotel and markets, and many speak at least broken English to make sure the driver can understand where you want to go

Approximate fares are between 10,000VND and 15,000VND for a short ride, between 20,000VND and 35,000VND for a longer or night ride, or around 40,000 per hours

It is really wonderful when you go around Hoan Kiem lake or Hanoi old quarters by cyclo and listen introduction about Hanoi and Vietnamese people

Xe om

The xe om is a motorbike taxi. Xe means motorbike, om mean hug, so you get the picture. Getting around by xe om is easy, as long as you don’t have a lot of luggage

Prices are comparable with those for a cyclo, but negotiate the price beforehand. There are plenty of xe om drivers hanging around street corners, markets, hotel and bus stations.

Show you address to the drivers, you will go to right place you want

Taxi

What is the best means of transportation in Vietnam for a foreigner?

Taxis with meters, found in most major cities, are very cheap by international standards and a safe way to travel around at night. Average tariffs are about 10,000d to 15,000d per kilometre. However, dodgy taxis with go-fast meters do roam the streets of Hanoi and HCMC, they often hang around bus terminals. Only travel with reputable or recommended companies.

Bicycle

What is the best means of transportation in Vietnam for a foreigner?

If you want to perfectly feel the atmosphere of Vietnam daily life, hire one bicycle and ride around the city in the early morning. Like in Hanoi, you can see the early morning market, parks in the morning with exercises of local people, Hanoi streets with not many vehicles.
